About HAAM

The Henley Alumni Association – Malta (HAAM) forms part of the Henley Alumni international network.  The aims of the Association are to:

1.      Establish a fellowship of  Maltese members who exchange views and ideas;

2.      Provide a forum for closer co-operation and interchange between HAAM members and members of other Henley Alumni Associations world-wide and Henley Business School;

3.      Creating a focal point for Henley qualification course members and alumni to keep contact and network with one another;

4.      Promote the practice of professional management in Malta.


MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to all persons residing in Malta who are following a Henley course of studies or have successfully completed a Henley Course of Studies.  All members have voting powers during General Assemblies. They shall conform to the rules of the Association.  One can download a pdf version of the Statutes of the Association here.

The membership fee is €25.00 per annum. This provides full access to the range of services and facilities offered by HAAM.  These include access to members only area on this website and subsidies activities (listed below) which are frequently organised by the Committee.  New users can register here.

Henley alumni not resident in Malta may apply for membership through the Secretary.  They need to show that they have successfully completed a Henley course of study.


ACTIVITIES

The activities of the Association comprise of:

  • regular social activities,
  • fortnightly information exchange through Newsletter and website,
  • organisation of seminars to update members and local managers on the new and emerging management practices, and
  • support to Henley MBA/Diploma course participants in Malta.

Currently the executive Committee consists of 7 members who regularly meet to manage the Associate.  The following are the profiles of the Committee Members:

CHAIRMAN

Charles MerciecaCharles Mercieca

Managing Director

Brands International Ltd

Charles read business studies at MCAST before joining his family business “Pace and Mercieca” were he eventually launched his vision for the firm. He was instrumental in a number of successful import and distribution projects: PM Hobby DIY, Homemaster DIY and Homemate DIY.  In the 90’s Charles Mercieca founded a group of companies mainly involved in property development, wood products and interior furnishings. These include, Brands International Ltd., BoConcept Malta Ltd. and Harruba Estates Ltd. He has been directly involved in materials sourcing, business start-ups, marketing and corporate governance. As a result he has a wealth of experience which makes him the driving force behind his activities.

He is presently reading for an M.B.A. at Henley Business School and hopes to further and consolidate his knowledge of the world of business.

He has upheld through the decades a keen sense for CSR and has served on a number government boards. He held a variety of posts, including Vice President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce & Enterprise. He also was President of the Maltese American Chamber of Commerce.

Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority

 

Graduated in Electrical Engineer in 1987, he joined the public service at the Standards Laboratory where he was Head of the Electrical Division for 10 years.  His responsibilities included testing and drafting specifications for electrical goods for various public and private organisations.  In 1998 he was engaged as a Project Manager with the Malta Standards Authority responsible to set up the National Laboratory.  Now within the Standards and Metrology Institute of MCCAA,  Ing Farrugia is responsible for standardization activities in Malta which include development of Maltese standards, adoption of European and international standards as Maltese standards, training programs on quality, environmental, food hygiene, safety standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000), certification of Quality Management Systems, Environmental Management System, certification of organically produced products, etc.

 

EVENTS CO-ORDINATOR

Kenneth Rizzo Naudikennethrizzo

Pater Group

Kenneth is a business management professional with several years of experience within various industries and currently operating in the automotive sector.

He runs the Alfa Romeo and Jeep brands in the Maltese Islands for the Pater Group since 2008.

He previously worked for one of the largest group of companies in Malta: M. Demajo Group, from 2001 to 2008 and has managed various of its subsidiary companies that operate on both a local and international scale. He also represented the interests of MDG on the Marketing Advisory Board of the Valletta Waterfront Cruise Liner Terminal from 2005 to 2008.

He was instrumental in bringing to Malta the concept of automotive TV test drives and founded/produced Malta’s first automotive TV programme: ‘Wheelspin’ that since 2001 runs till the present day.

He holds an MBA from the Henley Business School (UK).

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours degree in Management and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Malta and had completed his secondary and post-secondary studies at St. Aloysius’ College.

Mr. Stephenson is founder of Baron Networks Ltd’s.  The company engages a number of key personnel with many years experience in all types of copper and fibre, data, Cable TV, telecommunications, power transmission and electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems.  Baron Networks Ltd is a stockists and distributors of telecommunication components, provides for telecommunication design consultants and systems analysis, and undertakes turnkey installations: Copper, Fibre, ELV, Electrical and Mechanical Works.

Wayne Hewittwaynehewitt

Business Development & Marketing Manager

Eworld Limited

An award winning executive with 20 years’ experience in business and technology management. He is widely credited with being instrumental in contributing to the setting up of distribution channels for world leading technology companies Hewlett Packard and Microsoft in Malta, and has a very deep understanding of the local and international technology market. Over the past 20 years, Wayne has developed unique expertise and knowhow in building successful distribution channels locally and internationally, and is widely regarded as one of the leading technology business developers on the island.

For the past 13 years, Wayne has held positions with Alf. Mizzi Group subsidiaries Systec Limited and Eworld Limited as Business Development Manager, developing HP and Microsoft business in Malta and beyond. He is currently reading for an MBA at Henley Business School. In his free time, Wayne enjoys reading about Nutritional and Evolutionary Science, and has an avid passion for US equity trading.   He is also involved in local politics, holding positions in various related committees.

 

 

Patrick CutajarPatrick Cutajar

Patrick is the Managing Director and major shareholder of Eyetech Ltd, an IT services company.  Currently he is reading for an M.B.A. at the Henley Business School.  Patrick’s background is technical with specialities in Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Servers together with experience knowledge in Networks and connectivity.  Currently he is also serving as a councillor at the Mellieha Local Council.  He has served in government board of directors at the Malta Standards Authority and in the board of governors of the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority.

 

 

 

 

Mr. Juan de  Battista Juan-DeBattista

Chief Financial Officer

Gasan Group Limited

Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (London). Chief Financial Officer of the Gasan Group of Companies. Served on various Boards of the Group’s leisure companies and the Group’s Technical Division. Worked as accountant in the Travel and Tourism sector, the Insurance Sector and the Hotel sector. Lectured in Management Accounting with the Malta Institute of Accountants.

 

 

 

 

Lorenzo Mulè StagnoLorenzo Mule Stagno

Managing Director

Allied Consultants Ltd

Lorenzo is the owner and Managing Director of Allied Consultants. He holds a MBA (2004), and a teaching degree from the University of Malta. After spending some years teaching Mathematics in Government schools and a year living in Germany, Lorenzo entered the world of business in 1991 through Business Marketing Services ltd (BMS), an advertising agency which he still manages to this day. In the meantime he has been involved in a number of other enterprises and start-ups. Lorenzo was chosen as Malta’s Entrepreneur of the year 2010 by the European Commission.

Lorenzo is involved in business and management consulting, market research, and training. He has advised a wide range of organisations, both in the private and public domain, as well as through coaching individuals. He has organised and delivered a wide range of management and social skills courses, with his business and educational backgrounds proving an ideal combination for this role. Besides being the Associate for Henley Business School in Malta and the Mediterranean region, Lorenzo is a Henley approved tutor and delivers courses on Personal Development and Strategic Marketing for Henley Business School. He has also delivered lectures on Leadership at Vlerick Leuven Ghent Management School in Belgium, on Intercultural Communications at the University of Malta, and on Marketing at Oxford Brooks University. Lorenzo is also a member of ESOMAR, the global market research standards organisation, leading various qualitative and quantitative research projects.

In 2009 he obtained a post-graduate certificate in online facilitation from Henley Business School and in 2011 completed a post-graduate course in Coaching from the same school.
